The St. Andrew’s pre-K 4 program is a captivating learning experience that encourages exploration and prepares children for future learning. The academic program introduces opportunities for self-directed learning to foster independence and problem-solving skills.
The morning begins with a group circle time, followed by a small group time during which the children work together with a teacher to develop fine motor, math, or reading skills. Our language program is a literacy exploration through which students are surrounded with opportunities for reading, writing, listening, and playing, building the foundation for becoming successful readers, writers, and thinkers.
The pre-K 4 math program introduces basic mathematical concepts in the context of everyday life. The program respects children’s thinking and ideas, using problem-solving situations that tap into their interests, connect to their everyday experiences, and engage them in meaningful activities such as counting snacks, tracking school days and attendance, or graphing their favorite foods.
The handwriting program begins developing muscle control with the use of chalk and boards, etch-a-sketch boards, play dough, colorful workbooks, special writing utensils, and writing papers.
The pre-K 4 program integrates art, music, and fun-filled activities involving blocks, calendars, attendance rosters, graphs, and games in daily classroom life. Field trips and guest speakers reinforce concepts and further expand students’ vision of the world. Socially, children learn to get along with others and become independent members of their classroom community and of the St. Andrew’s Episcopal School family.
